After a very prolific study season in 2011, we are now ready to resume our excavations.
Our main objectives for our 2012 archaeological campaign are to pursue the excavation of the area East of the Hellenistic mansion on the Acropolis and to uncover more residential dwellings and civic or religious buildings on the South-East slope of the hill. Also, as we do every summer, some field trips will be organized to important archaeological sites and museums in the area (Pella, Vergina, the archaeological museum in Thessaloniki...).
The work will take place under the supervision of qualified archaeologists.
Only 30 students will be accepted for this campaign (4 to 6 weeks), which will combine three components:
1. Theoretical: lectures and workshops on the history of the site and the vast region
of Macedonia/Thrace, architecture and urbanism, pottery styles, etc.
2. Practical: methodology and excavation techniques, work on the site and at
the museum, study and cataloging of artefacts, sherd drawing, etc.
3. Discovery: field trips to various archaeological sites and museums in the region. |
